TRIPARTITE COLLABORATION TO BOOST PALLIATIVE CARE RESEARCH & EDUCATION: New Centre to develop capabilities to integrate Palliative Care into Healthcare Spectrum
3 October 2017: To bolster capability and capacity to support end-of-life care in Singapore, the, National Healthcare Group (NHG) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Dover Park Hospice (DPH) will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding to form The Palliative Care Centre for Excellence in Research and Education (PalC). Leveraging on the strengths and resources of member institutions, namely Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), NTU’s medical school the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) and DPH, the tripartite collaboration builds on existing partnerships1 and will combine clinical expertise with academic and research excellence, to produce practical applications within the community.
Dover Park Hospice reaching out to the public about non-cancer palliative care and debunking hospice myths at its 1st Community Roadshow in the Heartlands
23 September 2017: Through its first Community Roadshow in Bishan Community Club this weekend, Dover Park Hospice aims to reach out to the public about how palliative and hospice care can help non-cancer terminally patients. At the same time, local celebrity and television personality Gurmit Singh is joining forces with palliative care professionals to de-mystify hospice care myths. Gurmit who is Dover Park Hospice’ first celebrity ambassador is bringing the message, “Hospice care is a wise choice” to heartlanders through a carnival-like roadshow that includes games, performances, informational booths and talks. He is hosting the entire event on both days (23 September and 24 September 2017) from 10am – 4pm, de-mystifying hospice care and sharing his personal experience with end-of-life care.
Dementia Patients in Pilot Palliative Home Care Programme Enjoyed Better Quality of Life and Less Distress
21 September 2017: Findings from a three-year pilot palliative home care programme for advanced dementia patients showed all-round improvements in their quality of life, coupled with a lower utilisation of acute healthcare services. Temasek Foundation Cares – Programme Dignity is the first-of-its-kind programme in Singapore catered specifically for end stage dementia patients. This programme is a collaboration between Temasek Foundation Cares, Dover Park Hospice and Tan Tock Seng Hospital. It was funded by Temasek Foundation Cares on a grant of $1.5 million. Results of care for 3311 patients were tracked from 2014 to 2017.
Dover Park Hospice appoints Gurmit Singh to be its first celebrity ambassador
22 August 2017: Dover Park Hospice appoints local celebrity and television personality Gurmit Singh to be its Ambassador for its 25th Anniversary outreach campaign, “Hospice care is a wise choice”. He will be the first celebrity ambassador for Dover Park Hospice (DPH), a secular charity hospice. He will help bust myths about hospice care and spread awareness on how hospice care can help seriously-ill patients live life meaningfully and with purpose, making every moment matter. Prof Lionel Lee, Chairman of Dover Park Hospice said, “We are delighted to have Gurmit on board to help us de-mystify hospice care. While hospice care has been available in Singapore for decades and has helped numerous patients, many seriously-ill patients and family members continue to have mis-perceptions.”
