Dover Park Hospice Sunflower Charity Gala 2023

We concluded Dover Park Hospice’s 30th Anniversary celebrations with our annual fundraiser on 19 August 2023, together with around 480 guests who attended in support of our hospice’s cause. Themed “An Evening with Pearls”, this year’s Sunflower Charity Gala was held in-person at The Ritz Carlton, Millenia Singapore. The Gala dinner was graced by Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Minister for Social and Family Development, Second Minister for Health and Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs as Guest-of-Honour, and the hospice’s patron, Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam.

The guests were treated to a curated four-course dinner and an exciting programme that includes our hallmark Silent Auction, a moving Sand Art presentation of a patient’s story, and various performances. We are grateful to have Nikki Muller as emcee for the evening and Joanna Dong who concluded the event with her soulful singing performance.

Our deepest appreciation to everyone who made this Charity Gala possible, especially our donors, sponsors, and all our supporters-turned-friends who helped us raise over S$1.1 million dollars. Thank you also to all staff who planned and successfully executed the gala. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards enabling Dover Park Hospice to continue providing palliative care for terminally-ill patients, in supporting their families and in making every moment matter for them.

Dover Park Hospice 30th Anniversary Charity Golf 2023

On 27 April 2023, we concluded our 30th Anniversary Charity Golf which was held at the Orchid Country Club and graced by Mr S Iswaran, Minister for Transport and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, as Guest-of-Honour. The event raised a total of $406,061, through the support of 144 individual and corporate donors, along with close to 150 guests who attended the victory dinner on the same day.

During the golf tournament, our golfers were presented with an 18-hole challenge, and many tackled the game with great enthusiasm. Although the tournament was suspended shortly after tee-off due to wet weather, our golfers continued to swing their best for a meaningful cause after the game resumed. An engaging lineup of fringe activities were also organised, including Whiskey for Charity, and a Challenge a Pro segment, featuring Golf Professionals Johnson Poh and Joey Poh. Some golfers even managed to beat the pros and walked away with golf vouchers prizes. In addition, our golfers were also treated to free brownies by Bob the Baker Boy, and refreshing fruits cups with compliments from the organising committee.

After the tournament, golfers and guests then gathered at the Sapphire Suite in the evening for the victory dinner, which included live band performances, a prize presentation and the Raffle Draw.

Our heartfelt gratitude to all donors and sponsors for joining us in celebrating 30 years of making moments matter and for generously supporting our cause. The amount raised from the event will go towards providing our terminally-ill patients with quality and holistic palliative care. With a growing demand for end-of-life care in Singapore that is brought on by an ageing society, Dover Park Hospice remains committed to serve all regardless of age, race or religion, and to provide dignified care to terminally-ill patients and supporting their families.

These included a trivia game where guests were put to the test on common Peranakan customs and traditions, a cookie decoration contest on Peranakan tile cookies, as well as a best dressed contest for guests decked out in their fancy Peranakan outfits. Dover Park Hospice Virtual Sunflower Charity Dinner 2020

With COVID-19 and and strict gathering restrictions in place, our signature fundraising event – Dover Park Hospice Sunflower Gala Ball was moved online, named “Virtual Sunflower Charity Dinner” this year, where close to 250 guests attended the virtual dinner. Held on 18 September 2020, we delivered a curated 3-course dinner to each of the guest’s residence.

Our guests were immersed in “Sweet Summer Nights” set in the background of tropical islands, with welcome packages containing themed party accessories delivered together with their dinner, so that they could dress up to the occasion. Apart from the gastronomic dining experience, guests were able to access a specially designed microsite where they were able enjoy the evening’s programme which included pre-recorded speeches by our Guest of Honour, Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, and newly appointed Dover Park Hospice’s Chairman, Associate Professor Jeremy Lim. The night was also filled with exciting live-stream performances hosted by local radio deejay Denise Tan, who also performed a comedy skit, as well as Dover Park Hospice’s very own volunteer group, GEMS Show Choir, who put up a medley of ABBA hits.

There were also 5 items, which includes paintings, whiskey and a ceramic pot up for auction, and guests also purchased raffle draw tickets for a chance to win exclusive designed aromatherapy packages. After a night of fun and entertainment, guests were invited to their assigned virtual rooms to enjoy a night of conversations with their friends and family. Mr Gurmit Singh, the Hospice Ambassador, also graced the event by visiting some of the top-tier donors’ rooms.

Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat shared in his pre-recorded speech that he was glad Dover Park Hospice had expanded its services, such as the opening of its day care facility in October 2019, and the recent expansion of home care services to also serve non-cancer patients with end-stage organ failure. Associate Professor Jeremy Lim also said, “We are excited about our move to our new facility at the Integrated Care Hub in 2022 as we ramp up our resources and infrastructure to serve twice as many patients.”

At Dover Park Hospice, we rely on philanthropic giving to continue with our mission in providing comfort, relief of symptoms and palliative care to patients with advanced disease regardless of age, race or religion and in supporting grieving families. We are grateful to all who attended and supported us in one way or another in helping us raise over S$1 million this dinner.

DPH Sunflower Gala Ball 2018

We concluded Dover Park Hospice’s 25th Anniversary celebrations on 12 August 2018 with our signature fundraising event – Sunflower Gala Ball, “The Enchanted Garden of Life” which was held at Shangri-La Hotel and graced by President Halimah Yacob as our Guest-of-Honour.

The gala dinner included a 4-course dinner crafted by the resident chefs in Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, as well as exciting performances, which included Dover Park Hospice GEMS Show Choir made up of DPH volunteers.

Speaking at the gala, DPH’s newly elected Governing Council Chairman, Mr Robert Chew, shared a quote from the founder of the modern hospice movement, Dame Cicely Saunders, “You matter because you are you, and you matter to the end of your life. We will do all we can not only to help you die peacefully, but also to live until you die.”

He added, “At Dover Park Hospice, we treasure life even in one’s last days. We serve with compassion, alleviating suffering and maximising quality of life for the terminally ill and their loved ones.”

At DPH, about 40% of all its annual expenses are supported by donations and fundraising. All these help us to keep our Palliative Care services; whether in-patient or Home Care, more affordable, and it allows our brand of care and love to be shared with those who truly need it.

Thank you all for attending this joyous event and helping us raise over S$1.2 million to support the growth of the Hospice and our endeavour to making every moment matter for our patients, who live with life-limiting illnesses.
