Dover Park Hospice

Never Alone, Always Cared For

After decades working as a hotel chef, Mr Johnny Chong was used to long hours and busy kitchens. However, when prostate cancer left him physically weak and frail, he feared fading quietly alone. At Dover Park Hospice, he is seen as the person he is, beyond his illness.

In 2021, Mr Johnny was first referred to Dover Park Hospice Home Care service after discharge from hospital. Through our Home Care team, he not only received medical treatment but also found meaning and connection again. To help Mr Johnny with his loneliness, we referred him to our Day Care in 2022.

Mr Johnny was welcomed warmly where he sang his favourite Hokkien songs, cooked his signature beef stew for others, and even “travelled” around the world virtually with Virtual Reality (VR) goggles. He shared snacks during Lim Kopi sessions and made it a point to welcome newcomers, just as he had been welcomed.

When his condition declined in 2025, he was transferred to our Inpatient Care, and Mr Johnny was again embraced with gentleness. The care he received extended beyond medicine, as our team continued to journey with him.

With the desire to go home, our Home Care team arranged for him to be supported by a foreign domestic helper in the comfort of his home. At 91, Mr Johnny continued to receive the same care and dignity in the comfort of his home.

Mr Johnny Chong passed away on 3 Jan 2026. He will be remembered fondly by those who knew him.
